Swiss choreographer, theatre-maker, set designer and clown Martin Zimmermann has been creating his frantic, visually arresting shows without words for more than 20 years. He makes a welcome return to Luxembourg, bringing his dark humour to close the "mémoire.s et resilience? cycle. Following his solo Hallo, two seasons ago he presented Eins Zwei Drei, set in a museum where a trio of clowns were locked in an infernal triangle of conflict.
Martin Zimmermann's work delivers a close-up of humanity, in unsettling universes where inanimate objects are animated and people are thrown together. This time he joins a company of three on stage for his newest physical theatre work, Danse Macabre (2021), to play Death himself. The tragicomic characters are social misfits banded together in a godforsaken dumping ground for discarded and useless things. Like a mischievous puppet master, Death has come to toy with them.
