With 10 performers
In an international career of more than 30 years, influential Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus has continued to work across disciplines. He often uses video but always puts the vital energy of the body at heart of his work, aiming to test its limitations with gravity-defying acrobatics.
He was a mentor for TalentLAB 2021, when he presented TRACES, on the theme of heritage. His 2018 mythological narrative TrapTown took his multimedia innovation to a new level, creating astonishing sets and a seamless live experience.
In Hands do not touch your precious Me, composer Charo Calvo contributes an electroacoustic score, while Wim Vandekeybus takes to the stage with French visual artist Olivier de Sagazan and eight other dancers. De Sagazan begins to transform himself into a primal living sculpture, covering his body and face in wet clay. Then he reaches out for another body to start again.
"With this performance, Wim Vandekeybus chucks a thousand-year-old myth directly into our laps. He does not force it upon us, but uses kilograms of clay, a brilliant soundscape and eight talented bundles of muscles who move almost faster than light to show how, [...], every person and each people continuously struggle to be a different and preferably better version of themselves.?
