For over 30 years Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus and his company Ultima Vez have been creating a huge variety of works, whilst nevertheless remaining true to their movement idiom. Tension, conflict, body versus mind, risks and impulses, physicality, passion, intuition and instinct are elements that will always be part of Vandekeybus' work. For his first visit to the Grand Théâtre, the prolific and award-winnning choreographer and his company present one of his most recent creations. TrapTown premiered in October 2018 and takes us to a parallel universe, outside of time and space.
Conflicts from early times and curious, strange catastrophes dominate human relationships. The necessity and apparent possibility of emancipation rise to the surface. Wim Vandekeybus is fascinated by the universal nature of the age-old myths. For TrapTown , he returns to the limitless and obscure cosmos of the ancient souls, using dance, film, text and music to conceive a new mythology and create a seamless and dreamlike live experience.
