The Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg is a film museum whose mission is to preserve and promote international film heritage. It has been a member of the International Federation of Film Archives since 1983. The cinema (17, place du Théâtre) is the showcase for the Cinémathèque's collections. Most of the films shown here come from the archives at the Cloche d'Or. Over the weeks, the Cinémathèque presents monographic retrospectives (tributes to directors and actors) or thematic retrospectives (cycles and reflections on the history of cinema) as well as a whole range of special events: film lectures, debates and round tables, projects for young audiences and activities for the elderly, film concerts and festivals. The weekend programme offers the general public the chance to discover or rediscover films representing all the facets and riches of cinema history.
